Learning New Ground

Learning New Ground

One thing flower farming keeps teaching me is that there’s always something new to learn, and not all of it happens out in the field.

I’m a flower farmer, not a web designer, but one of my goals has always been to share farm life with you in a way that feels welcoming and easy to follow. Part of that effort meant making a change in web platforms recently, and I’ve been spending time learning my way through an entirely different system.

The timing honestly wasn’t the most convenient (AYE!) — right in the middle of a busy season is not exactly when you hope to take on something new — but contracts were ending, so it was the right time to make the shift rather than put it off again.

Some parts have come quickly. Some parts definitely have not.

There have been plenty of moments where I’ve stared at the screen longer than I’d like to admit, trying to figure out why something should be simple and somehow isn’t. But little by little, it’s starting to feel more familiar.

I suppose that’s true of most things here — whether it’s growing flowers, figuring out timing, or building something new behind the scenes, there’s usually a stretch where you just keep working at it until it starts to make sense.

So while the fields are asking one kind of attention right now, I’ve also been building skills in a very different kind of field. (HA!) A personal goal of mine is to always stay curious and forever a student, I believe there is always something new to learn both here on the farm and as I venture out into the world.

And if you spend a little time on the new site, I’d genuinely love to know how it feels to you. What works? What would make it easier? Sometimes the best improvements come from fresh eyes.
